WeAreDelphix: Meet Lindsey Nguyen

Meet Lindsey Nguyen, staff engineer at Delphix. Based in Seattle, Lindsey tells us about her role on the virtualization SDK team, her passion for cooking, and more in our latest employee spotlight.

What do you do at Delphix and what inspired you to join the company?

I’m an engineer on the virtualization SDK team. I’m responsible for building new features for the SDK and making sure any issues that come up with our product are fixed. Currently, I am working on moving our plugin runtime from Jython, which only supports Python 2, to running on a separate process in a Docker container. This will enable future support for customers when adding new languages in addition to Python.

I joined Delphix 5 years ago after graduating from the University of Washington. While my job search began with looking at the larger tech companies, I was convinced to join because of my experience during the interviewing process. It felt personal and welcoming from the start, and I enjoyed having the opportunity to meet and speak with different people across the team.

You can ask me anything about…?

Sybase ASE or the virtualization SDK. I wrote most of the code that supports our Sybase product, including the device layout mapping, so that provisioned sybase databases have the same device layout as the original production database.

What’s the coolest project you’ve worked on at Delphix?

My favorite project has been writing the virtualization SDK to support plugins written in Python. The idea of writing something to allow our customers to upgrade plugins was exciting because the feature is an essential part of getting plugin authors to stop developing Lua toolkits and move onto Python plugins. It was also my first time leading a large team where I was responsible for designing, scoping out, and executing the project with my team members. Keeping the project on track for the deadline was difficult but very rewarding once we finished.

What are your hobbies or passions outside of Delphix?

Growing up, my family was big on home-cooked meals. And thanks to them, I’ve been able to keep the passion of home cooking alive. When I moved into my own place, I started to learn to cook on my own and I’m always looking for new recipes to try! Here are some of my favorites.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
