Mitra Raman Awarded Educational Grant for Excellence in App Development
Menlo Park, CA -- December 19, 2013 - Delphix, the leading provider of agile data delivery solutions, today announced that Mitra Raman, a Senior at Carnegie Mellon University, has been awarded the first annual Delphix Technology Scholarship for Women. Submissions were reviewed by the Delphix engineering team, all of whom voted on the application that best represents Delphix values. The ideal application solves a specific problem; includes strong design, implementation, robust testing and proper documentation; and demonstrates collaboration with others. Winners of the scholarship earn $5000 that is applied to the study of a technical degree.
Raman's winning Web application, PartyStarter that she developed jointly with three peers, is an end-to-end app that includes user interactions, GUI, decision logic and backend work to databases. The app uses external libraries and APIs to a third party service, Venmo, to create a simple-to-use interface through which users can share the cost of hosting events.
"At Delphix, we believe diversity is the foundation of a strong engineering culture. We instituted this scholarship to help more women, who still represent a minority on most engineering teams, pursue technical degrees," said Eric Schrock, VP of Engineering at Delphix. "We are proud to recognize Mitra Raman's work in developing PartyStarter, in which she demonstrated clear ownership of a specific problem and worked with a team to build a robust solution. We wish her all the best in her pursuit of a degree in Computer Science."
